Bernard A. "Butch" Verscha

Bernard A. “Butch” Verscha, 75, of Colona, passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Trauma Center, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on I-80 in Colona.      As per his wishes, Cremation Rites have been accorded by Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory and no services will be held.  Memorials may be made to the Bernard Verscha Memorial Fund, to be donated to Alzheimer’s Research.

 Butch was born on May 31, 1941 in Rock Island, IL, the son of Bernard “Bud” and Bernice (Opalka) Verscha.  He graduated from Alpha High School.  He was united in marriage to Judy A. Thomas on January16, 1971 in Woodhull, IL.  Butch was a steel worker for John Deere Plow Planter Works for 30 years, retiring in 1995. 

Butch was a member of the AMA (American Motorcycle Association).  He loved riding motorcycles and snowmobiles and fishing with his grandson.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; sons: Dan (Sara) Verscha of Richland, MO, and Thomas (Josh) Verscha of Sherrard, IL; grandchildren: Chandler and Paige.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Richard, and his sister Barb Wiggins.
