Brett J. Meier, 20, of Hooppole, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 21, 2018, in rural Kewanee, IL, from injuries received in an accident while spending time with his friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 27, 2018, at the Zion United Methodist Church in Hooppole, IL. Reverend Dan Wright will officiate. A private inurnment will take place at Hooppole Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Thursday, April 26, from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Atkinson Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Brett J. Meier Memorial Fund.
Brett was born on August 28, 1997, the son of Douglas J. and Lisa A. (Knowles) Meier, in Macomb, IL. He attended Annawan High School and graduated with the Class of 2016. During his high school career, Brett played for the A-W Titans football team and was an active member of the Annawan FFA. Brett was currently employed with Wright Electric in Geneseo, IL. He was a lifetime member of the Zion United Methodist Church in Hooppole, IL. Brett enjoyed fishing, hunting, and longboarding. Most of all, Brett loved his family and friends, and all of the time he spent with them.
Those left to cherish his memory include his parents, Doug and Lisa Meier, Hooppole, sister, Jill Meier, Hooppole, grandparents, Dean & Norma Meier, Hooppole, Dwight & Alberta Schrodt, Macomb, IL, and Jan Knowles, Macomb. Brett is also survived by his uncles & their spouses: Junior (Sharon) Meier, Annawan, Merle (Lori) Meier, Illinois City, and Larry (Tammy) Knowles, Macomb, along with many cousins, and dear friends.
Brett was preceded in death by his grandfather, Michael Knowles, and by his great-grandparents.
