December 22, 1927 ~ July 8, 2016 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Carol A. Johnson, 88, of Geneseo, passed away Friday, July 8, 2016, at Hammond Henry Hospital in Geneseo.  A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 12th, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory, Geneseo.  Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church.

 

Carol was born on December 22, 1927, in Geneseo, the daughter of Fred and Rogene (Duffin) Reig.  She graduated from Geneseo High School in 1945 and from Illinois State University in 1949.  She was united in marriage to Wilbur Johnson on June 19, 1949, in Geneseo.  He preceded her in death in 1998.  She then married R. Carrol Johnson on May 6, 2000, in Geneseo.  Carol had been a school teacher in rural Cambridge.  She then became a teller at Central Bank in Geneseo for many years.

 

Carol was a member of First Presbyterian Church for over 60 years.  She belonged to the Presbyterian Women and Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).  Carol was the historian for the church and enjoyed quilting.

 

She is survived by her husband, R. Carrol, sons, Kent (Carol) Johnson, Geneseo, Craig (Karen) Johnson, Bloomington, MN, Scott (Jennifer) Johnson, Geneseo, step-children, Carol Ann (Bing) Nishiura, Winston-Salem, NC, and David (Sheila McCauley) Johnson, Indialantic, FL. Her grandchildren are Abby, Hannah, Gabriel, Luke, and Metta Johnson, and three step-grandchildren are Kurt and Tony Hutchinson and Christena Callahan. 

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wilbur, two brothers, and one sister.
