Charles “Chuck” Snyder
Charles “Chuck” Snyder, 75, of Geneseo, passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island, IL. The visitation will be held Sunday, March 4 from 2-5 p.m. at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo, where the Rosary will be recited at 4:45 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Michael Pakula at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 5, 2018 at St. Malachy Catholic Church in Geneseo, IL. A luncheon with family and friends will follow.
On Wednesday, March 7, 2018, a Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Father William Sullivan at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, New Haven, IN, at 11:00 a.m. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the Mass. A graveside service will be held immediately following at St. John Cemetery, New Haven. Family and friends will gather for a luncheon at St. John the Baptist Church after the cemetery service.
Chuck was born June 27, 1942, in New Haven, IN to Bernard L. and Hilda M. (Schnelker) Snyder. He attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Grade School and was taught by the extraordinarily dedicated Sisters of St. Agnes. He graduated from New Haven High School. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University and a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering in 1965.
He worked at the International Harvester, Fort Wayne Truck Plant as a production line supervisor and supply management supervisor. He taught Engineering Technology at Purdue Regional Campus, Fort Wayne, and was manager of advanced manufacturing engineering at General Electric in Fort Wayne. Chuck joined Deere and Company, in Moline, IL, and had various assignments at the Corporate Headquarters, Harvester Works and the Seeding Division in Manufacturing Engineering, Total Quality Management, and Project Management.
He married Joyce Eaton on December 2, 1967, and they had four children; Cathy Dow, Malta, IL, Chris (Betty) Snyder, Frisco, TX, Becky (Kris) Gerber, Minneapolis, MN and Phil (Sara) Snyder, Minneapolis, MN. They welcomed many foster children into their home, including Kevin (Denise) Lac, Naperville, IL. Their grandchildren are Jessica Snyder, Colleen Dow, Samantha & Josh Snyder, and Lyle & Otis Gerber. Joyce preceded Chuck in death in 2007.
In 2008, Chuck had the good fortune to meet and fall in love with Regina “Gina” Moore and they were married on June 12, 2010. The family was extended to include Megan (Todd) Gilbert, Ft. Collins, CO, Molly (Kris) Lewis, Geneseo, and Matt (Rachel) Moore, Coal Valley, IL. Grandchildren include Julia, Noah and Isabella Lewis, Adeline Moore and Annie & Martin Gilbert. With family in ten states, including Delaware, Colorado, Minnesota and Texas, they were able to make many enjoyable trips to visit family and friends.
Chuck was active at St. Malachy Parish and recently served on the Parish Council. He was involved in youth sports programs in Geneseo, including baseball and basketball. He also enjoyed making bread.
Chuck was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Snyder, nephew, Spencer Snyder and brother-in-law, David Crosby. He is survived by his sisters, Barbara Crosby & Lisa Snyder, both in Indianapolis, IN and sister-in-law, Mary Sue Snyder, Temperance, MI.
Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo, is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Malachy Catholic Church or the Geneseo Atkinson Food Pantry.
