Clifford E. Verdick

Clifford E. Verdick, 88, of Annawan, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2018, at Kewanee Care Nursing Home in Kewanee, IL.  A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Annawan. Reverend S. Stephen Engelbrecht will celebrate. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Annawan. Visitation will take place from 10:00-11:00 a.m., one hour prior to the Mass, at the church. The Rosary will be recited at 9:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials for Cliff may be sent to Abilities Plus in Kewanee. Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Atkinson is assisting the family with these arrangements.

Cliff was born on March 31, 1929, the son of Edmund and Irene (Causemaker) Verdick, in Annawan, IL. He graduated from Annawan High School. He proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Cliff married Marilyn L. DeMink on September 23, 1950, in Annawan. Cliff started his career as a service technician with his dad at Verdick Implement Company. He later worked for Goodrich Equipment Company in Geneseo. He retired in November of 1995. Cliff was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was also a 38-year member of the Annawan-Alba Fire Department. He was Chief for 30 of those years. Cliff was also a member of the Annawan VFW. He was honored to go on the Quad City Honor Flight on April 16, 2014. Cliff enjoyed fishing trips to Canada and Wisconsin. He had a passion for woodworking and was very talented in building birdhouses and feeders.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Marilyn; sons, Randy (Lori) Verdick, Iowa City, IA, Marty (Annette) Verdick, Champaign, IL, and Larry Verdick, Kewanee; his three grandchildren, Hailey Verdick, Neal (Elizabeth) Verdick, and Lisa (Jon) Penner; and two great-grandchildren, Dana and Claire Penner.

Cliff was preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Irene.
