Clyde W. Salzmann

Clyde W. Salzmann, 97, of Annawan, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2017, at Hammond-Henry Hospital Long Term Care Unit. Visitation for Clyde will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, January 22nd at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Atkinson.  Private graveside services will be held at a later date in Evergreen Memory Gardens, Kewanee.  Cremation has been accorded by Vandemore Crematory. Memorials may be directed to the Annawan/Alba Library or the Annawan Community United Methodist Church.

Clyde was born on March 11, 1919, in Alba Township, rural Annawan, the son of Ernest and Sadie (O’Neal) Salzmann.  He was a graduate of Annawan High School. He was united in marriage to Josephine L. Whipkey on September 10, 1941, in Hooppole, at the Zion Evangelical Church. Josephine passed away in 2008.

Clyde was a lifetime farmer, on the family farm in rural Annawan, where he had resided and farmed for 96 years.  He served on several boards, including the school board, library board, and church board during his lifetime.  He enjoyed his family, his “third daughter,” Kathy Roegiers, fishing, gardening, and playing cards with his friends.  His special fishing buddies were Dave and Dennis Marchand, whom he enjoyed fishing with on a regular basis.  Clyde really enjoyed hosting his “Fish Fry’s” for his family and friends.

Survivors include his daughters, Sharon (Richard) VanKerrebroeck, Annawan, and Marilyn  Lovestrand, Burnsville MN, his son, Ernest (Nancy) Salzmann, Mineral; eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine, son-in-law, Duane Lovestrand, one brother and one sister.
