Dorothy M. Cessna 

Dorothy M. Cessna, 88, of Mineral, IL, passed away on Thursday, November 02, 2017 at OSF St. Luke Medical Center in Kewanee, IL. A Funeral Mass for Dorothy will be on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Annawan, IL. Father Timothy Sauppe will celebrate. Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 7, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Atkinson, where the Rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. Memorials may be left to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Dorothy was born on January 1, 1929, the daughter of Oscar and Elsie (VanVooren) Croegaert, in Mineral. After Dorothy graduated from Mineral High School, she completed three years of nursing training and continued to work as a homemaker. Dorothy married John F. Cessna on March 31, 1951 in Urbana, IL. John preceded her in death in 2006. She was a longtime and active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society and a CCD teacher. Dorothy was also active in Cursillo.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Michael (Mary Jo) Cessna, Sycamore, IL, James (Karen) Cessna, Monroe, WI, Robert (Sue) Cessna, Spring Valley, IL, Thomas (Diane) Cessna, Bloomington, IL, and Philip (Diane) Cessna, O’Fallon, MO, and her daughters, Mary (Steve) Van Poucke, Marengo, IL, Patricia (Tim) Sullivan, Rushville, IL, Margaret (Earl) Simon, Hamilton, IL and daughter-in-law, Diane Cessna, Geneseo. She is also survived by her 22 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Elsie, her husband, John Cessna, son, John Cessna Jr., sisters, Ruth Jensen and Arlene Davis, and by her brother, Donald Croegaert.
