Elsie M. Marchand

Elsie M. Marchand, 94, of Hooppole, IL, passed away on Thursday, March 08, 2018, at Genesis Senior Living in Aledo, IL. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Annawan on Saturday, March 24, 2018. Reverend S. Stephen Engelbrecht will celebrate. Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Annawan. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Atkinson, where the Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m.  Memorials may be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Annawan.

Elsie was born on May 9, 1923, the daughter of Camiel and Marie (Paepe) Vercauteren, in Annawan, IL. She completed 8th grade at the Sacred Heart Catholic School in Annawan. Elsie was united in marriage to Robert Marchand on September 28, 1946. Robert preceded her in death on August 21, 1971. Elsie assisted her husband with farming and the operation of their dairy herd cows in rural Hooppole for many years. She was a life-long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Annawan, where she served on the Altar & Rosary Society. Elsie enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, quilting, and baking cookies and pies. There was always dessert in the house! Most of all, she loved her grandchildren and supported them by attending their sporting events. Elsie was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, James (Dolly) Marchand, Durant, IA, and Tony Marchand, Morton, IL, daughters, Linda (Terry) Heller, Cedar Rapids, IA, Patricia (Bob) Puleo, Warrenton, MO, Pamela (John) Krantz, Reynolds, IL, and Terri (Stan) Dale, Redlands, CA, 11 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, Camiel and Marie, husband, Robert, daughter, Debra Marchand, and a brother, Albert.
