Francis H. Taets

Francis H. Taets, 80, of Geneseo, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Unity Point Health – Trinity Rock Island.  A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, October 24th at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory, Geneseo.  Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo, where Military Honors will be accorded by Don Cherry VFW Post # 5083.  Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the Geneseo Humane Society.

Francis was born on June 23, 1936 in Loraine Township, the son of Edmond and Marguerita (VanVooren) Taets.  He was united in marriage to Betty Jean Mathis on June 2, 1962 in Las Vegas, NV.  She preceded him in death on November 17, 2011.  He was a foreman/ superintendent at J.F. Edwards Construction Co. for 38 years.

Francis was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Riverbend Second Ward in East Moline.  He enjoyed flower gardening, traveling, stamp & coin collecting, and working outside in his orchard. 

He is survived by his son: Quentin Taets of Geneseo, IL; daughters: Cheryl Taets of Geneseo, IL, Crystal (Tod) Workman of Nutrioso, AZ, Carla (Julius) Chirchir of Ames, IA; grandchildren: Tod Ryan (Laura) Workman, Ashley (Mitchell) Udall, Natalie (Garret) Hunt, Ethan Workman, Dylan Workman, Taeton Chirchir; great grandchildren: Nailla Workman, Echo Udall; sisters: Phyllis Galloway of Salt Lake City, UT, Patricia Deets of Winona, MN; and brothers Ronald (Marilyn) Taets of Coal Valley, IL, Richard (Nora) Taets of Geneseo, IL, Kenneth Taets of Livermore, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty, and his sister Lucille Jones.
