February 15, 1927 ~ April 13, 2015 (age 88) 88 Years Old

G. Allen Colter, 88, of Mission, TX, formerly of Geneseo, passed away Monday, April 13, 2015, at The McAllen Medical Center in McAllen, TX.  A funeral service for Allen will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2015, at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo.  Reverend Greg Chenoweth will officiate.  Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Military Honors will be accorded by the Don Cherry VFW Post.  Visitation for Allen will be held 9:30-10:30 a.m. (one hour prior to the service) Monday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be left to the G. Allen Memorial Fund.

 

Allen was born February 15, 1927, in Tina, MO, the son of Edgar and Hattie (Burnside) Colter.  He was a graduate of Geneseo High School and proudly served in the U.S. Army.  Allen was united in marriage to Geraldine Hajek on April 17, 1947.  They later divorced.  Allen worked for John Deere Plow Planter Works for 27 years, retiring from the Experimental Department.  He was a member of the Geneseo Moose Lodge, the 40 & 8, a life member of the American Legion, and a former member of the Civil Defense Geneseo Emergency Unit for many years.  He enjoyed going for drives and wasting gas, morel mushroom hunting, and camping.

 

Survivors include daughters, Reba (Steve) Winegadner, of Geneseo, IL and Sheila Houk, of Galesburg, IL; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother, Wayne (Evelyn) Colter of Geneseo, IL. 

 

Allen was preceded in death by his parents and step-brothers.
