Gordon F. Blackert, 86, of Geneseo, passed away Friday, November 2, 2012, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo. Funeral services celebrating Gordon’s life will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 5th at Zion United Methodist Church, Hooppole. Reverend Terry Lancaster will officiate. Burial will follow in Hooppole Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Hooppole American Legion Post. A visitation for Gordon will be 3-5 Sunday at the Atkinson Chapel of Vandemore Funeral Homes. Memorials may be directed to the Gordon Blackert Memorial Fund.
Gordon was born January 24, 1926, in rural Prophetstown, IL, the son of John Henry and Florence (Fehlman) Blackert. He was a graduate of Prophetstown High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Gordon was united in marriage to Darlene Anderson in 1946. She preceded him in death in1999. He married Sandra Heller December 30, 2000, in Hooppole, IL. Gordon was a lifetime farmer in rural Hooppole. He was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church, Hooppole and the American Legion Post in Hooppole. Gordon served on the Prophetstown School Board for over 20 years and was the Yorktown Township Tax Assessor for many years. He enjoyed golfing and reading, but his true passion was farming.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra; sons, Kent (Lynn) Blackert, Prophetstown, IL and Kevin (Kim) Blackert, Orion, IL; daughters, Candice (Virgil) Hairgrove, Morton, IL and Chris Blackert, Davenport, IA; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four stepchildren, Lynn (Jim) Bos, Jim (Kathy) Heller, John (Judi) Heller, Tom (Ann) Heller; ten step-grandchildren and ten step-great-grandchildren.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Darlene, and sisters, Lois and June.
