Harold S. Atwell

Harold S. Atwell, 92, of Geneseo, passed away Friday, April 29, 2016 at Hammond-Henry Hospital Long Term Care.  A private Funeral Service will be held on Thursday May 5th at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory in Geneseo.  Deacon Harley Chaffee will officiate.  Burial will follow at North Cemetery, Geneseo.  Memorials may be made to the Atkinson Fire Department.

Harold was born on January 30, 1924 in Atkinson Township, the son of Albert and Mabel (Anderson) Atwell.  He was united in marriage to Myrtle Mortonson in 1942.  Later he married Edith Stahl on September 12, 1956 in Davenport, IA.  She preceded him in death in 2009.  Harold was a lifetime farmer in rural Geneseo, IL as well as worked for the Rock Island Lines Railroad.  He was an equipment repairman at the former Bellanger Farm Equipment in Geneseo.  In later years helped his friend Lyman Johnson.  Harold had a great passion for dancing. 

He is survived by his daughters: Cheryl (Jack) Ward of Cordova, IL, Carol (Mike) Park of Geneseo, IL; step-daughters: Beverly Miller of Geneseo, IL, Barbara (Gene) DeDecker of Atkinson, IL; grandchildren: Matt (Jaime) Ward, Molly (Mark) Biedenfeld, Justin (Kim) Park, Jodi (Morrie) DePorter; step-grandchildren: Kimberly (Shane) McBee, Travis (friend, Jennifer) Goossens, Angela (Todd) Clarke, Stephanie (Mark) Vulcani, Troy (Amy) Joseph, Sean Joseph; great grandchildren: Colton Ward, Leah & Landen Park, Joey & Ryan DePorter; step-great grandchildren: Jessica Clarke, Cade Clarke, Wyatt Goossens, Kellan McBee, Drew & Shane Joseph.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, 4 sisters, and step-daughter, Brenda Joseph.
