J. Allen "Cookie" Pobanz

J. Allen “Cookie” Pobanz, 83, of Geneseo, passed away Friday, March 20, 2015 at Geneseo Good Samaritan Village. A memorial service celebrating his life will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, March 26 at Vandemore Funeral Homes, Geneseo.  Inurnment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, where Military Honors will be accorded by the Don Cherry VFW Post # 5083.  A visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the VFW.

J. Allen Pobanz was born on March 26, 1931 in Cambridge, IL the son of John and Edna (Fitch) Pobanz.  Cookie proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.  He was united in marriage to Donna J. Stender “Mother” on September 27, 1958 in Davenport, IA.  She preceded him in death in 2009.  He worked construction for Erdman Construction, Cathelyn Construction and Hazelwood Homes.

Cookie was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church.  He was a member of the VFW American Legion in Geneseo, where he was a past Commander and active in the VFW Color Guard.  He was also a member of the 40 & 8, and the Geneseo Eagles Club.  Cookie enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and hunting.

He is survived by his daughter: Connie “Missy” and Kim McCubbin of Colona, IL; sons: Rick Pobanz of Geneseo, IL, Dave “Charlie Brown” Pobanz of Geneseo, IL; granddaughters: Emily Pobanz, Olivia and Tori McCubbin;  sister:  Joan (Joe) Gieger of Sterling, IL; brother:  Sid Pobanz of Cambridge, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Donna “Mother” Pobanz and his parents.
