Jack W. Garinger, 84, of Geneseo passed away Monday, November 5, 2012, at Amber Ridge Memory Care, in Moline, IL. Funeral Services celebrating Jack’s life will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 10th, at the Geneseo Chapel of Vandemore Funeral Homes. Deacon Harley Chaffee will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Military Honors will be accorded by Don Cherry VFW Post 5083. Visitation for Jack will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the Jack Garinger Memorial Fund.
Jack was born April 15, 1928, in Oakland, CA, the son of James Vance and Bessie Opal (McDaniel) Garinger. He was a 1946 graduate of Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, IN, and a 1950 graduate of Indiana University. Jack proudly served as First Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force as a radar navigator during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Marianne Laramie on August 31, 1952, in Indianapolis, IN. Jack worked for International Rectifier in El Segundo, CA and was co-owner of Safro and Associates in Skokie, IL, as a manufacturer’s representative for industrial electronics. He retired in 1988.
Jack was a member of the Stewart Masonic Lodge #92 AF & AM in Geneseo. He enjoyed woodworking, building houses, golfing and spending time with his family.
Jack is survived by his wife, Marianne; son, Joseph Garinger, Muskego, WI; daughters, Jackie (Joe) Mickley, Geneseo, Jody (Bruce) Wolfe, Geneseo, and Jeannette (John) Beck, Champaign, IL; thirteen grandchildren, Jake (Amelia) Mickley, Joe (fiancè, Kari Hartsock) Mickley, James (Avery) Mickley, Jenna Mickley, Anne (Adam) Watson, Evan (Jimmy) Hill, Charles Wolfe, Lindsey (Ben) Blonder, Derek (Lorena) Vaughn, John Beck, Elizabeth Beck, Amy Jo Garinger, and Alec Garinger; nine great-grandchildren.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister.
