James Hohenboken Obituary

James F. Hohenboken, 86, of Geneseo, IL, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at Unity Point Health-Trinity, Bettendorf, IA.  Funeral Services to celebrate his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 18, 2019 at First Lutheran Church, Geneseo, IL. Reverend Matt Kamprath will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2019 from 2 – 4 p.m. at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory located in Geneseo, IL.  Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church Scholarship Fund or the Isle of Flags.

 

James was born on November 22, 1932, the son of Vernon and Marguerite (Peterson) Hohenboken, in Moline, IL.  He married Loretta Anderson on February 20, 1954, at First Lutheran Church, Geneseo, IL.  James was a lifetime farmer in rural Coal Valley, IL, and was very proud to have the farm named as a Centennial Farm. James also worked at Case IH in East Moline, IL.  He retired in 1991, after 30 years of service.   Jim served proudly in the National Guard then later in the U.S. Army.  He was a member of the Stewart Masonic Lodge #92, Geneseo Moose Lodge, and Geneseo Country Club.  He was an avid golfer, fisherman, and enjoyed his poker group.

 

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 65 years, Loretta; son, James (Susan) Hohenboken, St George, UT, daughter Marta Hohenboken, Monmouth, IL; sisters, Nadene Kalchbrenner, Baldwin, MO, and Jacqueline Young, San Francisco, CA.  Jim had several special nieces and nephews.

 

Jim was preceded in death by parents and brother Verniel (Phyllis) Hohenboken.
