Janet E. (Johnson) Borkgren

Janet E. Borkgren, 89, of Geneseo, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society – Geneseo Village. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at  Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo. Rev. Ryan Landino will officiate. Inurnment will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation for Janet will be Thursday from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. prior to the services. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to the First Presbyterian Church, Good Samaritan Village or the Hospice Compassus.

Janet was born on May 23, 1927 in Gwinn, MI. the daughter of Henry and Jennie (Fagerberg) Johnson. She  graduated with honors from  Negaunee High School in Gwinn. On February 9, 1947 she was united in marriage to Raymond I. Borkgren in Geneseo. He passed away in 2013. Janet was employed by the Department of Treasury, and it was there that she met her husband Raymond. In later years she was employed as a retail clerk for Swanson’s, Wards &  McClimon Drug stores in Geneseo for many years. She was a longtime and active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Geneseo where she sang in the church choir. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed reading, sewing, cross-stitching, playing piano, singing, and spending time with family playing board games.

Survivors include her children Carol (Lon) Richey, Morrison, IL, John (Dawn) Borkgren, Bartlett, IL, Steven (Kathy) Borkgren, Lancaster PA., Grandchildren Sabrina Borkgren, Dr.Christine Richey (Steve Yahn), Dr. John Richey  (His Fiancée Whitney Love), and a great grandchild Noelle Yahn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Raymond, and a sister Carol Richards
