Janice E. Sample
Janice E. Sample, 84, of rural Geneseo, passed away on April 9, 2018, at her home. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, 2018, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo Chapel. Reverend Dr. Christopher Ritter will officiate. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the memorial service, (2:00-4:00), at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the Janice Sample Memorial Fund. Per her request, cremation rites have been accorded.
Janice was born on September 6, 1933, the daughter of Oliver Gordon and Loretta Iverson, in Rock Island, IL. She graduated from the Moline Lutheran School of Nursing. Jan was united in marriage to James Frank Sample on September 4, 1954, in Rock Island. Frank preceded her in death on October 1, 2014. She worked as a nurse for a few years, and later assisted her husband with farming. Together, Jan and Frank founded Samples Photography. They owned and operated their business together for 40 years. Jan was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and had been attending the First United Methodist Church in Geneseo. She enjoyed doing yardwork, flower gardening, and working on her home.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Daniel Sample, Geneseo, and Doug (Becky) Sample, Davenport, IA, the six foster children that her and Frank helped to raise, and her sister, Carol Apelquist, Milan, IL.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Loretta, and by her husband, James Frank Sample.
