Jeffery Paul Halligan, 61, of Geneseo passed away Saturday October 21, 2017, at his home, surrounded by his wife and loving family. A celebration of his life will be held Friday, October 27, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Heritage Church, in Rock Island, IL. Inurnment will follow at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the Don Cherry VFW Post 5083. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo. Memorials may be left to the Jeffery Halligan Memorial Fund. Cremation rites have been accorded.

 

Jeff was born on February 16, 1956, the son of George and Pearl (Hinckle) Halligan, in Geneseo, IL. He graduated from Geneseo High School in 1974. Jeff married Pamela K. DeSplinter on July 20, 1974 in Geneseo, IL. He was employed with John Deere Harvester Works, and then was a car salesman for Turpin Motors and Sexton Ford. Jeff joined the United States Army, starting his military career in April of 1982, and served his country during Desert Storm and Korea on the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone). In 1992, Jeff suffered a stroke, and was honorably/medically discharged from his service. Jeff enjoyed swimming and woodworking, which included building and refinishing furniture. He enjoyed riding his bike around town in his spare time.  Jeff loved and was devoted to his family, helping and supporting them in any way he could. Jeff was a member of the VFW and attended Heritage Church in Rock Island, IL.

 

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Pam; daughters, Jennifer Radue and Jessica (Corey) Disterhoff, Baxter, IA; and son, Jeffery (Christina) Halligan II, Colorado Springs, CO. Jeff’s grandchildren are Alexandria, Ethan, Quentin, Anthony, Elijah, Uriah, Fisher, Mackenzie, Hadessah, Samuel, Maria, and Silas. Jeff is also survived by his sisters, Colleen DeSpain, Geneseo, Deanna Burlingame, Silvis, Judy (Wes) Naftzger, Albany, IL, Carol (Bill) Halligan, Iowa City, IA, Becky (Clyde) Porter, Gurnee, IL, and Kathy (Joe) Saylor, Indiana, and his brother, Joe (Diane) Halligan, East Moline.

 

Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, George and Pearl, brother, Charles Halligan, and two sisters, Marilyn Griffin and Sharon Thompson.
