John F. Vandemore, 67, of Geneseo, passed away at Unity Point Health Trinity in Rock Island after a courageous 14-year battle with cancer. A funeral celebrating his life will be on Wednesday, July 29, at 10:30 a.m. at Vandemore Funeral Homes, Geneseo.Deacon Harley Chaffee will offficate. Burial will be in North Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. Memorials may be made to the John Vandemore Memorial Fund.
John was born on January 31, 1948, in Geneseo, to Paul and Adeline (Fiers) Vandemore. He graduated from J. D. Darnall High School in 1966. In 1968, he graduated from Morrison Drafting and Technology School. He married Lana M. Verschoore on June 24, 1972. John was a Master Plumber and was co-owner of Vandemore Plumbing & Heating, Inc. He was a member of St. Malachy Church and the Moose Lodge 990 in Geneseo.
John enjoyed working, but in his spare time, he enjoyed going to flea markets and auctions and working in the yard. He enjoyed NASCAR and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. In his younger days, he enjoyed fishing and bowling.
Survivors include his wife, Lana; his son, Scott Vandemore of Geneseo; sister, Jane (Regginal) Stearns of Port Byron; brother, Paul (Debra) Vandemore of Geneseo; mother-in-law, Norlaine Verschoore; sisters-in-law, Linda White (Gary Cook), East Moline; Lois (Mike) Wigant, Geneseo; and nieces, Kari (John) Lamb of Rapids City, Lindsay Stearns (Brent Lehr) of Chicago, and Gina Stearns of Port Byron; and one great-niece, Camilla Lamb of Rapids City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Robert Verschoore; brother-in-law, Gil White; and nephew, Chad Wigant.
