Keith Robert Jones

 

Keith Robert Jones, 89, of Geneseo, passed away on Friday, December 08, 2017, at the Generations at Rock Island Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing facility, in Rock Island, IL. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at First Congregational Church in Geneseo. Reverend Bruce Bergthold & Pastor Chris Cundiff will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memory Gardens, Kewanee, IL where military honors will be accorded by the Don Cherry VFW Post 5083. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 14, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to First Congregational Church, Geneseo.

 

Keith was born on April 27, 1928, the son of Frederic and Marie (McDowell) Jones, in Kewanee. He graduated from Kewanee High School, and attended college at Purdue University in Indiana. Keith married Betty A. Quayle on June 2, 1951 in Kewanee. Keith is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served his country as a corporal during World War II.  Keith was a construction project manager for several companies, including Deere & Company, Blackhawk Foundation, and Priester Construction before his retirement in 1994. He was a long-time, active member of First Congregational Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher & superintendent, a member of the church choir and several church boards. Keith was also a member of Geneseo Country Club, for 40 years, Geneseo Kiwanis, advisor for Hammond Henry Hospital Board, and was a City of Geneseo alderman. Keith was also an instructor at Scott Community College.

 

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Betty, children, Kathryn S. (Richard) Matusiak, Billings, MT, David R. (Debra) Jones, Geneseo, and Gregory A. Jones, Flower Mound, TX, daughter-in-law, Patricia McDonald, O’Fallon, IL, and his sister, Marilyn Altman, Santa Barbara, CA. Keith is also survived by nine grandchildren, London Matusiak, Ashleigh Roberts, Heather Castillo, Kristin Jones, Brett Jones, Adam Jones, Annie Henthorn, Katie Cundiff and Piper Jones.  Keith had 18 great-grandchildren.

 

Keith was preceded in death by his parents, Frederic and Marie, son, Thomas R. Jones, brother, Donald Jones, and by his sister, Beverly White.
