February 17, 1941 ~ October 25, 2016 (age 75) 75 Years Old

Kenneth A. “Kenny” Powell, 75, of Colona, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at his home.  A private graveside service with inurnment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Military Honors will be accorded by Colona American Legion Post #1233. Deacon Harley Chaffee will officiate.  Kenny’s family would like to invite everyone to join them at the Colona American Legion for a celebration of Kenny’s life from 2-4 p.m. on Friday, October 28th. Memorials may be made to the Colona Animal Shelter or a charity of donor’s choice.  Cremation Rites have been accorded by Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory, Geneseo. 

 

Kenny was born on February 17, 1941, in Atkinson, IL, the son of Emmett and Frances (Keemle Floming) Powell.  He graduated from Atkinson High School and proudly served in the US Navy as a Seaman First Class.  He was united in marriage to Cheryl “Cheri” Beaird on May 14, 1971, in Rock Island.  He was a forklift operator for Case-IH in East Moline for over 30 years. He retired in 1992.

 

Kenny was a member of UAW 1304 in East Moline and a 32nd degree Mason of the Moline Lodge #1014.  He was also a member of the Colona American Legion Post #1233 for 37 years.  He enjoyed taking care of his yard, going for walks, and riding his bike.  He looked forward to meeting up with his coffee group at the Doughnut Shop, as well as his friends at the American Legion.

 

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl “Cheri”; daughter, Maria Powell of Milan, IL; grandchildren, Anna Marolf and Timothy Marolf; and sister, Roseann Powell of Plainfield, IL.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Timothy Powell, and his brother, Bill Powell.

 

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Garneau and his staff for the care and compassion they extended to Kenny during his illness.
