LaWana M. VanDeWoestyne, 82, a resident at Hillcrest Home in Geneseo, formerly of Colona, passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at Hillcrest Home. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Colona, IL. Reverend Peter Zorjan will celebrate. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in East Moline. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 15, at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. The Rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. Memorials may be left to the LaWana VanDeWoestyne Memorial Fund.
LaWana was born on December 25, 1934, the daughter of Floyd and Florence (Pecaut) Sutterer, in Perryville, MO. She attended Alleman High School. LaWana was united in marriage to David C. VanDeWoestyne on May 16, 1953, in East Moline, IL. David preceded her in death in 2010. They owned and operated Dave's Apple Orchard in Colona for many years. LaWana was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society at St. Patrick Church. She loved to play bingo, tend to her flower and vegetable gardens, and most of all, LaWana loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Michael (Patti) VanDeWoestyne, East Moline, Jack (Toni) VanDeWoestyne, Amboy, IL, Mark (Tracey) VanDeWoestyne, Browntown, WI, Andy (Kathleen) VanDeWoestyne, Durand, IL, and Keith VanDeWoestyne, Rosco, IL; and her daughters, Brenda (Mike) DeKezel, Colona, Vickie (Joe) Francis, Burleson, TX, Janice (Mark) Giesler, Erie, IL, and Linda (Steve) Raney, Moline, IL. She has 22 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. LaWana is survived by her sisters, Doris Williams, East Moline, and Dorothy (Bud) Melton, Washington, IL.
LaWana was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Bill Sutterer, and by her great-grandson, Conner.
