Lois I. Nelson, 82, of Geneseo, passed away Tuesday, September 08, 2015, at Hammond-Henry Hospital Long Term Care in Geneseo.  A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at First United Methodist Church in Geneseo.  Reverend Dr. Chris Ritter will officiate.  Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Geneseo.  A visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday at Vandemore Funeral Homes, Geneseo.  Memorials may be made to the fund for a new kitchen at First United Methodist Church.

 

Lois Nelson was born on June 4, 1933, in Osco, Illinois, the daughter of Elmer and Myrtle (Stenzel) Firch.  She graduated from Geneseo High School.  She was united in marriage to Virgil A. Nelson on July 7, 1951.  Lois assisted Virgil on the farm in rural Geneseo for many years.

 

Lois was a member of First United Methodist Church in Geneseo.  She was active in the United Methodist Women organization and a rural social group called The Salem Society.  She enjoyed golfing and cooking delicious meals for her family.  Lois had a friendly smile for everyone and lots of love for her grandchildren and great-grandsons.  After retirement, Lois enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends.

 

She is survived by her husband, Virgil; sons, Greg (Barb) Nelson of Geneseo, and Tom Nelson of East Moline; grandchildren, Jeff (Christine) Nelson of Moline, and Kim (Nick) Gehling of Geneseo; great-grandsons, Lucas, Bobby, and Derek Nelson and Jack and Max Gehling.

 

Lois was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Dorothy Greenwood and Lucille Klemmer.
