Lucille L. Cathelyn

Lucille L. Cathelyn, 91, of Geneseo, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at her home. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 15, 2018, at St. Malachy Catholic Church in Geneseo, IL. Reverend Michael Pakula will celebrate. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Atkinson, IL. Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo. A Scripture service will be held at 3:45 p.m. Memorials may be directed to St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery, Atkinson, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Lucille was born on August 2, 1926, the daughter of Louis and Mary (Sturtewagen) Lievens, in Colona, IL. She was united in marriage to Kenneth E. Cathelyn on June 5, 1948, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Hooppole, IL. Lucille assisted Kenneth with farming in Loraine Township for 42 years. She was a member of St. Malachy Catholic Church. She was active in the Altar & Rosary Society Circle 11. Lucille was a talented seamstress and did beautiful needle-point work. She loved her grand and great-grandchildren and was a loving and caring wife and mother. She was a wonderful cook and baker.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Kenneth; daughter-in-law, Karen Cathelyn, Geneseo; grandchildren, Eric (Stephanie) Cathelyn, Carmel, IN, Laura (Greg) Steffensmeier, Des Moines, IA, and Lisa Cathelyn, Oakland, CA; four great-grandchildren, Lilly, Hunter, Zachary, and Xavier; and her brothers, Richard (Betty) Lievens, Osco, IL, and Eugene (Evelyn) Lievens, Knoxville, IL. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Mary, her daughter, Sharon Cathelyn, son, Vernon Cathelyn, and two brothers, Lawrence and Robert Lievens.
