Luella Marie (VanWaes) Strawhacker

Luella Marie Strawhacker, 81, of Atkinson passed away Monday, June 22, 2015 at her home.  A funeral service celebrating Luella’s life will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Vandemore Funeral Home, Atkinson.  Rev. Stephen Engelbrecht will officiate.  Burial will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Atkinson.  There will be no visitation.  Memorials may be left to the Luella Strawhacker Memorial Fund to be distributed among her favorite charities.

Luella was born December 25, 1933 in Geneseo, IL the daughter of Louis and Elizabeth Marie (Longeville) VanWaes.  She was united in marriage to Nyle Stafford and later to Roy E. Strawhacker; both preceded her in death.  She was a waitress in the Atkinson area for many years.  Luella was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Atkinson and a lifelong resident of Atkinson.  She loved her children, grandchildren, and her cats.  Luella enjoyed feeding the squirrels and loved family gatherings.

Survivors include her 3 sons: Kevin “Cubby” Stafford, Jeffrey “Louie” (Bethany) Alexander, and Chris Alexander all of Atkinson; 6 daughters: Lana Davis of Atkinson, Lori (Gordon Miller) Trujillo of Atkinson, Dyann (Troy) Schultz of Geneseo, Debra (Dennis) Christie of  Geneseo, Kim (Robert) Paige of Elmwood, IL, and Tammy (Craig Hansen) McVietty of LeClaire, IA; 10 grandchildren: Melody (Gavin) Moore, Anthony (Kelly) McVietty, Mike Davis, Nicholas Paige, Elizabeth Paige, Samantha Christie, Gregory Strawhacker, Sierra McVietty, Catherine Trujillo, and Kyle Schultz; and 3 great-grandchildren: Madison Wancket, Stormie Wancket, and Hadley McVietty.

Luella was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Loretta VanWaes and Linda Alexander, and both her husbands.
