Margaret O. Calsyn, 94, of Geneseo passed away Tuesday, May 16th 2017, at Hammond Henry Long Term Care Unit in Geneseo. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, May 23rd at 10:30 a.m. at St. Malachy Catholic Church in Geneseo, Father Michael Pakula will officiate. Burial will follow in the North Cemetery in Geneseo. Visitation will be Monday, May 22nd from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory in Geneseo. Memorials may be left to the Margaret Calsyn Memorial Fund.
Margaret was born January 26, 1923, the daughter of Adiel Verplaetse and Helene Vanderkerckhove, in Munson Township, rural Geneseo. She married Andrew A. Calsyn on June 30, 1945, in Geneseo. He passed away in 2006. Margaret was employed at Hammond Henry Hospital in the laundry department for 27 years. She also assisted Andrew with farming in rural Geneseo. She was a member of St. Malachy Catholic Church, and the Altar & Rosary Society. During World War II, Margaret helped assemble tail sections for war-planes at John Deere Forge in East Moline. Margaret enjoyed embroidery, reading, and baking.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Dale (Janice) Calsyn of Oswego, IL; daughters, Betty (Gordon) Bodeen, of Geneseo, Helen (John) Garwood of Las Vegas, NV, and Mary (Ron) Ryman of Geneseo, IL; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Adiel and Helene, her husband, Andrew, and two brothers, George and Alfred Verplaeste.
