Margaret (VanHenkelum) Garritson

Margaret Garritson, 83, of Geneseo, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, April 19, 2015, at Unity Point Health-Trinity, Rock Island.  A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Palos Park Presbyterian Church in Palos Park, IL.  Visitation will be held an hour and a half prior to the service from 10-11:30 a.m. at the church.  Private inurnment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Palos Park.  Vandemore Funeral Homes, Geneseo is assisting the family with arrangements.

Margaret was born on March 21, 1932, in Wheatfield, IN, the daughter of Henry and Jessie (Mooi) VanHenkelum.   She was united in marriage to Mark C. Garritson on January 12, 1952, in Palos Park, IL.  She was a sales associate for Bud’s Store For Men in Palos Heights, IL for 15 years.  Margaret enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, biking, and walking.  She loved following her grandchildren and their activities.

She is survived by her husband, Mark; daughters, Caryn (Larry) Vandersnick, Geneseo, and JessAnn (Lawrence) Randich, Lockport, IL; sons, Michael (Elizabeth) Garritson, Valparaiso, IL, Stephen (Barbara) Garritson, Brookfield, WI, and Mark (Christine) Garritson, Lockport, IL; grandchildren, Emily, Christopher, Stephen, Melissa, Stephanie, Benjamin, Krystal, Connor, and Kayla; and sister, Ann VanHenkelum, Orland Park, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, and three brothers.
