Marie L. (Verschoore) Schweninger

Marie L. Schweninger, 88, of Geneseo, IL, passed away Monday, November 9, 2015 at Hillcrest Home in Geneseo.  A funeral mass celebrating her life will be at 10:30 am on Thursday, November 12th at St. Malachy Catholic Church in Geneseo.  Father Michael Pakula will celebrate.  Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Geneseo.  A visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Wednesday at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo, where a rosary will be recited at 6:45 pm followed by a Women of the Moose service at 7 pm.  Memorials may be made to the Geneseo Moose Lodge.

Marie was born on August 21, 1927 in Atkinson, IL, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Antheunis) Verschoore.  She was a 1945 graduate of Atkinson High School.  She was united in marriage to Robert J. Schweninger on June 12, 1948 at ST. Anthony Catholic Church in Atkinson.  He preceded her in death in 1982.  Marie did cleaning for the former Hillcrest Bowling Center and True Value Hardware for many years.  She was a waitress at Phillips Diner and also worked in the kitchen at the Geneseo Moose Lodge. 

Marie was a member of St. Malachy Catholic Church.  She was also a member of Women of the Moose for over 38 years.  She enjoyed dancing (especially the Atkinson Stomp), reading, fishing and flower gardening.  She was an avid Cardinals baseball fan and NASCAR racing fan.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Monica and David Paxton of Geneseo; 1 sister-in-law: Shirley Hawk of Florida; 1 brother-in-law: Patrick Gray of Geneseo; several nieces and nephews; and special friend: Ione Burgess of Atkinson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents; and her sister, Arlene Hutchinson.
