Mary L. (Raschke) Fuqua

Mary L. Fuqua, 90, of Geneseo, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2016, at her home surrounded by her family.  A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 16th at Concordia Lutheran Church, Geneseo.  Pastor Mueller will officiate.  Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo.  Visitation will be held one hour prior (10-11 a.m.) to the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church.  Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mary was born on January 1, 1926, in Edford Township, Geneseo, IL, the daughter of Edward and Goldie (Adams) Raschke.  She was united in marriage to Russell D. Fuqua on September 7, 1946, in Edford Township.  He preceded her in death in 2002.  She earned her food service degree from Fontbonne College in St. Louis.  She then worked many years in dietary service working at Geneseo Good Samaritan, Hammond-Henry Hospital, and Moline Nursing and Rehab, from which she retired.  Mary was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, LWML and the CCL at church.  She was also a member of Hammond-Henry Auxiliary.  She enjoyed working with the disabled and elderly.  She loved spending time and helping out with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Jean (J.C.) Williams of Geneseo, and Diana Paxton of Geneseo; sons, Bob (Rita) Fuqua of Atkinson, and Jim (fiancée Victoria Girtman) Fuqua of Geneseo; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother, Marvin, and her son-in-law, Dennis Paxton.

The family would like to thank Pastor Mueller for his prayers, comfort, and guidance; Hospice Compassus; her caretakers, Marie Ufhiel, Carol Dillbeck, and Victoria Girtman; and her neighbors, John O’Conner and Jim Luikart for all the loving care extended to Mary and her family.
