September 24, 1918 ~ January 14, 2017 (age 98) 98 Years Old

Maurine Reig-Jones, 98, of Geneseo, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2017, at Hillcrest Home, Geneseo. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 21, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo. Reverend Paul Copeland of First United Methodist Church, Kewanee will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo where Military Honors will be accorded by the Don Cherry VFW Post #5083. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services (9:30-10:30 a.m.) on Saturday. Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church, Kewanee, Bishop Hill United Methodist Church, or Hillcrest Home.

 

Maurine was born on September 24, 1918, in Kewanee, the daughter of attorney Marion and Catherine (Giles) Hay. She was a 1936 graduate of Kewanee High School, and proudly served our country in the US Marine Corp during WWII. She earned the rank of Corporal in the Women’s Reserve Aviation Squadron. She was united in marriage to Russell Reig on May 29, 1944, in Berkley, CA. He preceded her in death on August 26, 1990. She later married Bernard Jones on February 21, 2001, in Kewanee, and he passed away on April 10, 2004.  Maurine was a legal secretary, first working for her father’s law firm in Kewanee and later at Bozeman, Neighbour, Patton & Noe LLP., Attorneys in Moline, from which she retired after many years of service.  

 

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Kewanee, and a former member of the Bishop Hill United Methodist Church. She belonged to the Prairie Quilt Club, Bishop Hill Heritage Association, Bishop Hill Arts Council, was a charter member of the Henry County Historical Society, as well as a charter member of the Marine Corp Women’s Marine Association. She enjoyed oil painting, quilting, and visiting with family and friends.

 

Survivors include her daughter, Catie (Steve) Vosburgh, Prophetstown, IL, son, Jeff (Debra) Reig, Panama City Beach, FL, and stepdaughter, Patricia (Henry) Houseman, FL. Her grandchildren include Michael (Amanda) Reig, Nicole (Brett) Myers, Charlie Reig, and Eric Robertson. She has two great-grandchildren, Cora & Lena Reig, three sisters, Rowena Gates, Tuscola, IL, Beverly Cheek, Seattle, WA, and Betty Brown, Kewanee.

 

She was preceded in death by her spouses, Russell Reig and Bernard Jones, an infant daughter, Marian Annette, two sisters and one brother.
