Michael J. "Lunker" Konitzer

Mike Joseph “Lunker” Konitzer, 55, of Colona, passed away June 13, 2015, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Long Term Care in Geneseo.  There will be a private funeral service celebrating his life at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo.  Inurnment will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery at a later date.  Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Wednesday, June 17th at the funeral home.  Cremation rites will be accorded after the services.  Memorials may be made to the Michael J. Konitzer Memorial Fund.

Mike was born on January 7, 1960 in Moline, IL, the son of Otto “Joe” and Betty (Duncan) Konitzer.  He proudly served in the US Marine Corp. Mike was married to Kimberly Curry.  They later separated and divorced.  Mike worked for the Rock Island Arsenal as a machinist.  He was a member of First Lutheran Church.  He enjoyed fishing, boating and golfing.

He is survived by his father and step-mother, Joe and Mary Jane Konitzer of Geneseo, IL; son, Jade Konitzer of Denver, CO; sisters, Tammy (Rusty) Quillin of Cleveland, IL and Jan (Craig) Palmer of Cambridge, IL; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Cheryl Wulf.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Larson; brother, Steven Yarger; and his grandparents.
