Noe “Bud” DeRycke, 96, of Sheffield, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at the LaSalle Veterans Home, in LaSalle, IL. A Funeral Mass celebrating Bud’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 16, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Sheffield. Reverend Mark Miller will celebrate the Mass. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery, Sheffield. Military Honors will be accorded by the Mineral American Legion Post. A visitation for Bud will be held from 9-11 a.m. (two hours prior to the service) at the church. Memorials may be left to St. Patrick Catholic Church or the Sheffield - Mineral Rescue Squad. Vandemore Funeral Home and Crematory, Atkinson is in charge of the arrangements.

 

Bud was born April 12, 1921, in Sheffield, IL, the son of Frank and Effie (DeMetziner) DeRycke. He attended Sheffield High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served in the 13th Air Force Division in New Guinea and the Philippines. He was united in marriage to Berneice E. Christian on August 17, 1946, in Sheffield. She preceded him in death on January 23, 2014. Bud was a lifetime farmer in the Sheffield, Buda, and Mineral areas.

 

Bud was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Sheffield. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Mineral American Legion Post, where he was a past Commander. He was active in the Flemish American Club, the Geneseo Moose Lodge, and the Mineral Bolders Club. Bud was an avid rolle bolle player. He was proud to be an attendee of the Honor Flight.

 

Survivors include his daughters, Linda (Stan) Lyon, Sheffield, and Laura (Doug) Jury, Sparland; and his son, John (Cheryl) DeRycke, Prophetstown, IL. Bud had nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. His surviving brother is Lawrence “Larry” DeRycke, Sheffield.

 

Bud was also preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn Lutz and great-grandson, Noah DeRycke.
