Phyllis A. Sand

Phyllis A. Sand, 86, of Geneseo, passed away Wednesday, November 01, 2017, at Hammond Henry Long Term Care. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, November 6, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo. Reverend Bruce Bergthold will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the Geneseo Public Library or to the Henry County Humane Society.

Phyllis Joan Adams was born on November 9, 1930, the daughter of Dr. John and Phyllis Gillette Adams, in Kirksville, MO. The family moved to Geneseo shortly thereafter. Phyllis Joan graduated from Geneseo High School and the Moline Institute of Commerce. Phyllis worked as a legal secretary for Robert H. White. Phyllis was united in marriage to Dale Sand on December 13, 1952. She and Dale farmed south of Geneseo briefly before moving to their home north of town where they continued to farm for over 30 years before their retirement. Phyllis and Dale loved to dance, laugh, go for car rides, and eat good food. Phyllis was an avid reader. She was a member of Chapter DN of PEO, Grace United Methodist Church, Polka Club of America, and Women of the Moose.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Robert Doescher, her sisters-in-law, Willicene (Cliff) Pobanz, and Elaine (Ken) Hamilton, along with ten nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dale, two sisters-in-law, five brothers-in-law, and one nephew.
