Robert C. Anderson, 89, of Atkinson, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2015, at Geneseo Good Samaritan Village. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 8th at Vandemore Funeral Homes, Atkinson. Reverend Melva England will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Geneseo. Military Honors will be accorded by the Don Cherry VFW Post #5083. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Robert Anderson Memorial Fund, to be distributed among several organizations.
Bob was born on June 17, 1926, in Farmers City, IL, the son of Jesse and Marguerite (Ruch) Anderson. He graduated from Farmers City High School. He proudly served in the US Navy from 1946-1948. Bob was united in marriage to Roxee D. Callison on September 18, 1948, in Dewitt, IL. In 1968 he purchased the Atkinson facility of the Federal Iowa North Grain Co. and started Atkinson Grain & Fertilizer. Bob was still active at the office every day.
Bob was a member of the Atkinson Congregational Church and served on the Church board. He served on the board at Farmer’s National Bank and was a trustee for the Village of Atkinson for a number of terms. Bob was also a member of the Atkinson Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed fishing with his business partners. Bob truly loved all the customers and clients he had for all the years in business and valued their friendship.
He is survived by his wife, Roxee; daughter, Tari (Ed) Kneen, Geneseo; son, Tim (DeeAnn) Anderson, Atkinson; four grandchildren, Jason (Jennifer) Kneen, Moline, IL, Kathy (Cameron) Minnaert, Des Moines, IA, Ryan Anderson, Atkinson, IL, Haley (Judson) Kuffel, Ankeny, IA; five great-grandchildren, Jordan, Brittney, Rachel, Madilyn, and Conner; sisters, Betty Lewis, Mahomet, IL, Louise Jiles, Farmers City, IL, Judy Marshall, LeRoy, IL, Mary Lou Flegel, LeRoy, IL, and Carolyn Jiles, Atkinson, IL; and brothers, Duane Anderson, Bellflower, IL, and George Anderson, DeKalb, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Jim Anderson, his sister, Anna Mae, and his granddaughter, Karen.
