Robert J. Hoste

Robert J. Hoste, 93, a long-time resident of Colona, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Woodridge Supportive Living Residence in Geneseo, IL where he was residing. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Colona, IL. Reverend Peter Zorjan will celebrate and Reverend Duane Jack will concelebrate. Entombment will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in East Moline, IL where military honors will be accorded by the Moline American Legion. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 24, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo, where the Rosary will be recited at 3:45 p.m. Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church or to the Honor Flight.

Robert was born on January 9, 1925, the son of Joseph and Alina (David) Hoste, in East Moline. He married Alice M. Smelkowski on November 27, 1948 in Colona. She preceded him in death in 2005. Robert is a veteran of the United States Navy, proudly serving his country in WWII. He worked for International Harvester Works in East Moline, where he was a very skilled welder for 34 years. Robert retired in 1981. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, and was involved in the Holy Name Society. Robert was also a member of the UAW Local 1304. He loved working in his garage and was a very talented and intelligent man who could build or fix anything! Robert also enjoyed farming part time.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Roberta (Steven) Smith, Geneseo, sons, Lester (Cindy) Hoste, Geneseo, Andrew (Kathy) Hoste, Moline, Martin (Martha) Hoste, Alpha, and Aaron (Elaine) Hoste, Colona. He has 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Robert is also survived by his brother, Albert (Margaret) Hoste, Linn, MO.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Alina, his wife, Alice, son, Victor Hoste in 2016, great-great-granddaughter, Bella, three brothers, Albert, Morris, and Maurice Hoste, and his sister Irene Schneider.
