Scott J. and Luke D. Teerlinck

Joint funeral services celebrating the lives of Scott Joseph Teerlinck, 39, and his son, Luke Dean, 10, will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, June 20 at First Lutheran Church in Geneseo.  Reverend Dr. Arthur Bergren will officiate.  Burials will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Geneseo. The TSA Honor Guard will present Honors.  Visitation for Scott and Luke will be held from 3-8 pm Wednesday at Vandemore Funeral Homes, Ltd., Geneseo, IL.  Memorials may be left to the Scott & Luke Teerlinck Memorial Fund.

Scott passed away Friday, June 14th and Luke passed away Saturday, June 15th from injuries sustained from a motorcycle accident outside of Colona.  Luke was able to give the Gift of Life, by being an organ donor.

Luke was born October 21, 2002, in Silvis, IL, to Scott and Jill (Halverson) Teerlinck.  He was a student at Southwest Elementary School and had just finished 4th grade.  He also just finished summer learning adventures.  

Luke was a member of First Lutheran Church in Geneseo.  He enjoyed Geo-caching and motorcycling with his dad.  He also enjoyed spending time with his family, bugging his sister, gymnastics, FaithTime at First Lutheran, art & crafts, reading, watching tv, and relaxing at home.

Luke is survived by his mother, Jill Teerlinck; sister, Brenna Teerlinck; grandparents, Marion Teerlinck, Geneseo, and Mickey & Marilyn Halverson, Geneseo; several aunts, uncles, cousins and second cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dean Teerlinck.

Scott was born July 25, 1973, in Geneseo, Il, to Dean and Marion (DePorter) Teerlinck.  He graduated in 1991 from J.D. Darnall High School in Geneseo. He graduated from St. Ambrose College with a Bachelor'sdegree in law enforcement.  He married Jill A. Halverson on August 3, 1996 in Geneseo.  Scott worked as a security officer at OSF, a correctional officer at the Henry County Jail and a juvenile probation officer for Henry County.  Scott was a volunteer firefighter for the Geneseo Fire Department.  Scott began his career with the Transportation Security Administration in 2002 as a Security Screener at the Quad City International Airport. He was promoted to the position of Lead Transportation Security Officer in 2003 and to Supervisory Transportation Security Officer in 2006.  In 2008, Scott began work as a Master TSO in the Moline Coordination Center, before becoming a field based Program Specialist working for the Operational Requirements C3 office.  Scott was one of three TSA Telecommunications Specialists providing contingency communications capabilities to airports nationwide.  Scott’s primary responsibilities included the installation, testing, and maintenance of contingency communications equipment, as well as the training of the equipment’s operators.   Scott provided assistance with land mobile radios, mobile communications assets, interoperability with other government agencies, and any special communications needs.  Scott assisted the TSA’s Downstate Illinois District Mobile Deployment Team with training, deployment, and maintenance of the North Central Mobile Communications Trailer. It is a mobile asset equipped with a suite of communications capabilities that can be deployed anywhere in the United States.  Scott traveled to airports throughout the country to provide contingency communications support. He participated in special events, including working with a team that provided communications capabilities at the Presidential Inauguration in Washington D.C.  

Scott enjoyed being a ham radio operator. He loved being with his wife and kids, Geo-caching, camping and grilling out.

Scott is survived by his wife, Jill Teerlinck; mother, Marion Teerlinck of Geneseo: daughter, Brenna Teerlinck; brother, Mike (Gail) Teerlinck, Geneseo; sister: and Bonnie Swanson, Pompano Beach, FL.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dean Teerlinck.
