Sheldon L. “Pill” Schroeder, 92, of Geneseo, passed away on September 20, 2017, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, IA. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 24, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo. There will be a private graveside service on Monday, September 25, 2017, at Oakwood Cemetery in Geneseo where Military Honors will be accorded by the Don Cherry VFW Post 5083. Memorials may be left to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, IA.

Sheldon “Pill” was born on February 1, 1925, the son of Merle and Helen (Nelson) Schroeder in Geneseo, IL.  He graduated from Geneseo High School. After high school, Sheldon became a member of the United States Navy and served his country in World War II and the Korean War. Sheldon married Ethel Sommers on October 18, 1947, in Geneseo. Ethel preceded him in death on January 23rd, 2017. He was a lifetime grain and livestock farmer in rural Geneseo. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and watching basketball and football. Most of all, Sheldon enjoyed visiting with his family and friends. Sheldon attended the First Presbyterian Church in Geneseo.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Becky (David) Newton, Silvis, IL, and his three grandchildren, Stacy (Betsy) Demarest, Kimberly (Dan) Beug, and Lisa (Jeff) Nyberg. Sheldon also has ten great-grandchildren. His sister is Karen Judith (Donald) Doubler, Annawan, IL.

Sheldon was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ethel, his son Mark Schroeder, his daughter, Kathleen Burgston, and two sisters.
