Shirley A. VanAntwerp

Shirley A. “Big Gram” VanAntwerp, 85, of Atkinson, IL, died on Thursday, June 1^st at Hammond Henry Hospital surrounded by her family in Geneseo, IL. Funeral services are planned for Tuesday, June 6^th at 11:30 a.m. at  Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory in Atkinson. Reverend Jacob Stansberry will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Geneseo. Visitation will take place from 9:30-11:30 a.m. prior to the funeral service. Memorials may be made in Shirley’s memory to the Shirley VanAntwerp Memorial Fund.

Shirley was born on December 17, 1931, the daughter of Charles and Dorothy (Becker) Clementz, in Altona, IL. She was a graduate of Annawan High School. Shirley married Arlo “Dutch” VanAntwerp on September 1, 1951. The couple later separated. Arlo passed away in 2009. She was a home-caregiver for several elderly residents in Atkinson for many years and was a member of the Atkinson Congregational Church. Shirley enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, baking and always had a fresh pot of coffee and a bowl of popcorn made. She loved spending time with her kids and grandkids most of all.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Tim (Lynda) VanAntwerp of Kewanee, Tony VanAntwerp of Muscatine; her daughter,, Rhonda VanDerSnick of Geneseo; nine grandchildren - Brooke, Bart, Kelsey, Kale, Allyson, Ian, Joycelyn, Tanner and Connor; and nine great-grandchildren; brother, Arlyn Clementz of Oak Creek, WI; and her sister, Donna Vandemark of Macomb.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Dorothy, sons, Terry “Ray” & Russell, her son-in-law, Randy “Mole” VanDerSnick, and by her brother, Donald Clementz.
