Terry L. Henson, 80, of Geneseo, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2019, at Illini Restorative Care, in Silvis, IL. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 4, 2019, at St. Malachy Catholic Church, Geneseo, IL. Father Michael Pakula will celebrate. Inurnment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Geneseo. Military honors will be accorded by the Don Cherry VFW Post #5083. Visitation will be held Monday, March 4, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at St. Malachy Catholic Church, Geneseo. Memorials may be directed to the Terry Henson Memorial Fund. Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
Terry was born November 19, 1938, the son of Arthur E. and Florence R. (DeBates) Henson, in Geneseo, IL. He attended Geneseo High School, and proudly served our country in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Independence CVA-62. He married Sheila M. Hill on November 24, 1956, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Colona, IL. Terry was a general contractor in Colona, owning and operating Apple Construction Company for many years. Terry was a proud member of the Colona American Legion, Knights of Columbus at St. Malachy Catholic Church, and achieved Father Bader’s Assembly Fourth Degree. He was a member of Rock Island County Homebuilders Association, the Geneseo Moose Lodge, Colona Park District Board, and St. Malachy Church. Terry was very patriotic and loved his country immensely. He enjoyed collecting coins, woodworking, attending auctions, and he was one of the first lifeguards at the Geneseo community pool.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 62 years, Sheila; his children, Mike (Jane Eppink) Henson of Urbandale, IA, Rich (Lori Bennett) Henson of Colona, Terri Lynn (Kevin) Freeze of Geneseo, Mark (Sandy Lentz) Henson of Colona, Julie (Tim) Misfeldt of Geneseo; brothers, James (Elaine) Henson of Geneseo, and Jack (Deb) Henson of East Moline, IL; twelve grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren (with one on the way) and Buster Brown, his beloved black lab.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Florence, his brother, Bob Henson, and daughters-in-law, Heidi Henson, and Cindy Henson.
