Thomas Hopkins

Thomas L. Hopkins, 77, of Geneseo, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his family.  A Memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Monday, September 12, 2016 at 6:00 P.M. at First United Methodist Church, Geneseo. Rev. Chris Ritter will officiate.  A time of gathering and visiting will be from 5-6 P.M. prior to the service. The family invites everyone to share in a time of fellowship and salads, desserts and coffee immediately following the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the First United Methodist Church or the Relay for Life. Per his request, Cremation Rites have been accorded by the Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, who is assisting the family.

Tom was born on October 31, 1938 in Alger, Ohio, the son of Charles & Geneva (Lawrence) Hopkins.  He was a graduate of the Homer High School in Homer, Michigan and was united in marriage to Evelyn M. Bender on February 15, 1958 in Homer, Michigan.  Tom had been an Arc Welder for 34 years at Union Steel Co. in Albion, Michigan, from which he retired.  He & Evelyn moved to Geneseo in 2009 to be close to family.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Geneseo, and regularly attended the Thursday Morning Men’s Bible study at the Church, which he enjoyed tremendously.  Tom also enjoyed his coffee group with his buddies, hunting, fishing, woodworking, camping, traveling, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; daughters: Doreen (Jim) Borton, Geneseo, Darlene (Jim) Kelly, Geneseo; grandchildren: Angela (Rich) Jordan, Alicia (Doug) Richards, Michael Kelly, & Danielle Borton; and great grandchildren: Ashlynn & Kadience.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Hopkins and two brothers, Lloyd & James.
