Verla J. (Johnson) Shelton

Verla J. Shelton, 87, of Geneseo, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2015, at her home in Geneseo.  Funeral services celebrating Verla’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at First Lutheran Church in Geneseo, IL.  Reverend Dr. Arthur Bergren will officiate.  Burial will follow in North Cemetery.  Visitation for Verla will be held 9:30-10:30 a.m. (one hour prior to the service) Wednesday, May 13th at the church.  Memorials may be left to First Lutheran Church, Geneseo.  Vandemore Funeral Home in Geneseo is assisting the family with arrangements.

Verla was born May 8, 1928, in Galesburg, IL, the daughter of Harry and Anna (Peterson) Johnson.  She graduated with honors from the Academy of Home Study in Chicago, IL. She was united in marriage to Oliver L. Shelton on July 1, 1946.  He preceded her in death on August 30, 1983.  Verla was employed at International Harvester Works in East Moline. She retired after 30 years of service.

Verla belonged to First Lutheran Church in Geneseo, The Altar Guild Society of the church, W.E.L.C.A, the VFW Auxillary, the Hospital Auxilary, the U.A.W. 1356, and was a former member of the Women's’ Bowling Association.  Verla enjoyed being with family and friends, playing bridge and 500, as well as her travels to many different countries.

Survivors include her brother, Clarence (Lisa) Johnson of Cambridge, IL; and many nieces and nephews.

Verla was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
