Walter E Johnson

Walter E. Johnson, 76, of Davenport IA, formerly of Geneseo, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Manor Care in Davenport. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 23^rd at 1:30 p.m. at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory in Geneseo. Reverend Todd Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Military honors will be by Don Cherry VFW Post 5083. Visitation will be 12:30-1:30 p.m., one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Casual dress is preferred. Memorials may be left to Genesis Hospice or Shriners Children’s Hospital.

Walter was born July 1^st, 1940, the son of Carl and Ila (Stahl) Johnson, in Geneseo, IL. He attended Geneseo High School. Walter married Jeraldine I. Schultz on May 7, 1972, in Kewanee, IL. Walter was a member of the US Navy from 1960-1964. He worked for the Rock Island Lines, at the Geneseo Senior Citizen Center as a driver, and at the Geneseo Community Center as a custodian.  Walter is a former member of the Stewart Lodge 92 AF & AM, a former member of the Geneseo Civil Defense, and an avid Railroad Retiree. He was a skilled woodworker, loved to garden and mow his grass, enjoyed going out to eat, and loved watching the Lawrence Welk Show. Walter was a faithful participant of church services at Manor Care in Davenport.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jeraldine Johnson of Davenport, IA; son, Clayton Johnson of Davenport, IA; daughter, Carrie (Brian) DePuydt of Davenport, IA; brother, Ronald Johnson of Annawan, IL; sister, Rose (Denny) Cleair of Geneseo, IL; and his special honorary grandchildren, Sean, Matt, Will, Caty, and Hope Pohl.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ila, and one nephew.
