William J. "Willie" Shannon

William J. “Willie” Shannon, 78, of Geneseo, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at his home.  A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 20th at Vandemore Funeral Homes, Geneseo.  Deacon Harley Chaffee will officiate.  Inurnment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Cremation Rites have been accorded.  Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the William Shannon Memorial Fund.

Willie was born on June 3, 1937, in Colona, IL, the son of Robert and Elizabeth (Schneider) Shannon.  He was united in marriage to Carolyn S. McClorey on August 4, 1956, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Colona.  Willie worked for Remington Hybrids in Geneseo in the seed production department for 20 years.  After he retired from Remington, he worked for Wirth Inc. and Wyffels Hybrid.

Willie was an avid woodworker.  He enjoyed visiting the Donut Shop and having coffee with his friends as well as playing cards.  He liked watching his grandkids and great-grandkids in their sports activities.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; daughters, Paula (Kevin) Coleman, East Moline, IL, and Sherrie Shannon, St. Louis, MO; sons, Mark (Wendy) Shannon, Geneseo, IL, and Steve (Shari) Shannon, Geneseo, IL; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jane Beaupre, Lombard, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
