and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow,
nor crying, nether shall there be any more pain:
for the former things have passed away.

To: The Vern Cathelyn Family,
My sincere condolences regarding Vern’s passing. I was fortunate to be the Plant Manager when Vern signed on to help Grand Island. His knowledge of the Combine business was second to none and his support for the plant was invaluable. He always did his job and willingly helped others. To take Vern at such an early age, I guess the good Lord needed an expert to coordinate some really complicated work and He selected the very best person for the job. It was truly my pleasure to know and work with Vern and I’ll be forever grateful for his contribution to the Grand Island plant successes. As a family, please take great pride in the professional respect he earned. In my opinion, he was the best at anticipating changes that eventually came to fruition and was never “out-foxed” by anyone. Cherish the memories of his time on this earth. I’ll certainly remember Vern with the utmost gratitude.

Sincerely,
Steve Lee

I have had the pleasure of working with Vern in his carreers in both East Moline and Grand Island. He was one of the most knowledgeable people in the combine business I have ever met, and simply a great person to know. It strikes me with great sadness that he has not been able to enjoy his retirement more. I will hold all of you in my prayers.

I was "googling" old college buddies and unfortunately stumbled across Vern's obituary. I was so saddened to read about his passing. We were freshman roommates at WIU and then lived together again our senior year off campus. As is the case with many college friends, our lives took two different directions. I was a kid from the suburbs of Chicago and Vern was a farm kid. When we graduated we headed back to what we were comfortable with. But we developed a great friendship during those college years. We both learned a lot and grew up a lot during our college days. I have a couple of really funny memories about Vern that I'd love to share with you some day when you feel ready. We talked about anything and everything during our freshman year in college, and had a bond that I'll always remember.

May God bless you and your family on the loss of a really good guy. I'll always be a little sadder after learning about Vern's untimely and early passing.

Karen:

My wife Becky and I are very sorry to hear of Vern's recent passing. Similar to Mike Budde, I attended WIU with Vern from 1968-1972 and shared many great memories/moments with him. He actually invited us city boys to his parents farm one Thanksgiving (I believe) to see what country/farm life was all about!

Found out a few years ago that we shared a common friend, i.e., Bob Delph of Geneseo/ Farmers Mutual Electric Cooperative. Hoped to run into Vern at the Cooperative's annual meeting and very sorry now, that I did not take the time to see him when I would visit the Cooperative.

Please accept Becky and my sincere condolences to you and your family in your loss! Vern was a very nice, kind and caring person!

May God bless him and keep him and watch over you and your family forever!
