Ramona M. Taets

Ramona M. Taets, 94, of Geneseo, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at her home.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at St. Malachy Catholic Church, Geneseo.  Father Donald Levitt will officiate.  Cremation rites will be accorded following the mass and a private inurnment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. The mass will be livestreamed on https://www.facebook.com/vandemorefuneralhomes/.   Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel.  A Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 4:30 PM, prior to the visitation at the funeral home.  Memorials may be directed to the Ramona Taets Memorial Fund.

Ramona was born June 16, 1929, the daughter of John and Lucienne (DuLon) VanDeSompele, in Rock Island, IL.  She graduated from Rock Island High School, class of 1947.  On September 13, 1952, Ramona married Donald R. Taets at a service held in Rock Island.  He preceded her in death on December 31, 2015.  Ramona was a member of St. Malachy Catholic Church and served on the Altar & Rosary Society, she was also in the Country Estates Quilting Club.  Her hobbies included bowling, golf, making ceramics, and quilting.  She loved spending time with her family and will be dearly missed.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Michael (Cherie) Taets of Coal Valley, Barbara Miller of Osco, and Elizabeth (Jeff) Wagner of German Valley, IL; fifteen grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and sister Yvonne Werthmann of Davenport.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lucienne VanDeSompele; sons, Camiel “Mell” Taets and Donald Taets Jr.; siblings, John VanDeSompele, Daniel VanDeSompele, Jackie Neff, and son-in-law, Duane Miller.
