Sally Ann Powell 88 of Annawan passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Allure of Geneseo. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory-Atkinson Chapel. Reverend S. Stephen Engelbrecht will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Atkinson. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 4:30pm on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Vandemore Funeral Home and Crematory-Atkinson Chapel. Visitation will follow the Rosary on Wednesday from 5-7 P.M. at the Funeral Home. There will be an additional visitation a half hour prior to the funeral service. Memorials may be directed to the Annawan-Alba Fire and Rescue.
Sally was born on April 30, 1935 in Spring Valley, Illinois the daughter of Amandus “Kelly” and Mary (VanDeRostyne) Rumler. She graduated as valedictorian from Atkinson High School class of 1953. She worked at Atkinson Trust and Savings for many years. She met Virgil Powell at a dance and were terrific dance partners. They were married on September 16, 1961, and farmed in the Annawan area all their married years. Virgil passed away in 2011. She taught Sunday school class for many years at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Annawan. Sally enjoyed crocheting afghans for her sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid Chicago Bears and Illinois football fan.
Survivors include her sons; David (Julie) of Kewanee, Gary of Annawan, Wayne of Annawan Mark (Kim) of Hixson, TN five grandchildren; Brooke Anderson, Ryan, Haven, Aydin, Levi Powell, two great grandchildren; Layla and Brody Anderson.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Amandus and Mary Rumler, and her husband Virgil.
