Annabelle Sturtewagen, 78, of Atkinson, passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2018, at Unity Point – Trinity Hospital, ICU, in Rock Island, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 28, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, in Atkinson. Reverend S. Stephen Engelbrecht will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Atkinson Chapel, where the Rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m., prior to the visitation. Memorials may be directed to the Annabelle Sturtewagen Memorial Fund.
Annabelle was born on April 20, 1940, the daughter of Forest and Ruth (Sheahan) Emery, in Kewanee, IL. She graduated from Lafayette High School with the class of 1958. Annabelle was united in marriage to Kenneth J. Sturtewagen on February 20, 1960, in Atkinson. Kenneth preceded her in death on January 1, 2014. Annabelle owned and operated “Annabelle’s Hair Styling Salon” in Atkinson for many years, and also styled hair at the Good Samaritan Society in Geneseo. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society. Annabelle enjoyed attending rolle bolle games with her husband, Kenny Joe. She also looked forward to taking her grandson, Nick, out to eat and the two loved going for car rides.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Shane (Stacey) Sturtewagen, of Atkinson, and Shawn (Diane) Sturtewagen, of Mitchellville, IA; grandchildren, Nick, Ryan, Dylan, Vince, Eric, and Amber, and her daughter-in-law, Heather Williams, of Milan, IL.
Annabelle was preceded in death by her parents, Forest and Ruth, husband, Kenny Joe, son, Shad Sturtewagen, sister, Janet, and her step-father, Henry Winans.
