Betty M. Gibson

Betty M. Gibson, 79, of Silvis, IL, formerly of Atkinson, passed away on Friday, March 2, 2018, at the Generations at Rock Island in Rock Island, IL. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 5, 2018, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo. Reverend Reed Pedersen will officiate. Visitation will be held prior to the memorial service, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Betty Gibson Memorial Fund. Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.

Betty was born on November 3, 1938, the daughter of Samuel I. and Grace C. (Munter) Massingill, in Geneseo, IL. She graduated from Geneseo High School with the class of 1956. Betty was united in marriage to Rolland Carlson on July 29, 1956. She later married Charles W. Gibson on August 30, 1984, in Martinsburg, VA. Charles preceded her in death in 2005. Betty worked for Casey’s General Store for 11 years. She was the manager of the Atkinson location for 9 of those 11 years. Betty then started working at the welcome center in Rapids City, IL as a clerk supervisor. Betty enjoyed reading, cross-stitching and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Daryl (Tammy) Carlson, Nicholasville, KY, Scott Carlson, Cambridge, and Brett (Alisha) Carlson, Cambridge, daughter-in-law, Karla Carlson, Osco, grandchildren: Andy (Brooke) Carlson, Wade (Jessica) Carlson, Veronica (Fiancé Darin Young) Carlson, Blake (Shay) Carlson, Reid Carlson, Jacob Carlson, Rachel Carlson, Jessica (Brad Peck) Carlson, Samantha (Jon) Swanson, Abigail Carlson, Brad Ford, and Andrew Ruhnow, along with 14 great-grandchildren. Betty is also survived by her brother, Ervin (Carol) Massingill, Prophetstown, and sister-in-law, Clarice Massingill, Geneseo.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Grace, son, Steven Carlson, brother, Tom Massingill, and nephew Mark Massingill.
