Beverly A. Freddy, 90, of Atkinson, passed away on Friday, December 21, 2018, at Hammond Henry Hospital in Geneseo. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 24, 2018, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Atkinson. Father S. Stephen Engelbrecht and Deacon Nick Simon will celebrate. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 23, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Atkinson, where the Rosary will be prayed at 1:30 p.m., prior to the visitation. Cremation rites will be accorded to follow the Funeral Mass, and a private inurnment at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Beverly Freddy Memorial Fund, to be distributed among several local organizations.
Beverly was born on February 23, 1928, the daughter of John and Irene (Vandersnick) Goethals, in Geneseo, IL. She graduated from Atkinson High School and Marycrest College. Beverly was united in marriage to William J. Freddy on October 14, 1950, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Atkinson. Beverly started her career in education in a one room school house in Lorraine Township, followed by a teaching positon at Bass School, which was located north of Atkinson. She ended her teaching career as a middle school English and speech teacher at the Atkinson Junior High School. Beverly touched the lives of many students during her 35 years as a teacher. After her retirement, she worked as a receptionist at Central Bank in Geneseo. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society. She enjoyed going antiquing, doll collecting, and loved to decorate her home for all of the seasons throughout the year.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, William, son, Kurt (Sandy) Freddy, of Atkinson, daughter, Colleen (Jim) Lohr, of Coal Valley, four grandchildren: John Lohr, Sarah (Fiance – Royce Woodley) Lohr, Audra (Rob) Bates, and Justin Freddy, and two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Ryan Bates.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, John and Irene.
