Carol J. Thompson, 68, of Atkinson, passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2019, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, in Bettendorf, IA, with her loving family by her side. A private graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at the Annawan Township Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the Carol Thompson Memorial Fund. Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Atkinson Chapel, is assisting the family with these arrangements.
Carol was born on January 7, 1951, the daughter of Chris and LaVera (Miller) Emo, in Morrison, IL. She attended Erie High School. Carol was united in marriage to Ronald Thompson on September 14, 1986, in Geneseo, IL. She had been employed as an overnight support manager at Walmart in Geneseo for 17 years. She was a member of the Erie Christian Church, and a past member of the Girls Athletic Association at Erie High School. She enjoyed flower gardening, fishing, playing cards, and going to the casino. Most of all, Carol loved to spend time with her grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Ron, son, Chad (Megan) Johnson, Cambridge, step-son, Danny Thompson, of California, step-daughters, Chawntel (Scott Curry) Thompson, of California, and Charity (Mike) Herzs, of California; grandchildren, Kristie Saddler, Matthew Maxwell, Kirsten Sloane, Shyla Thompson, Savannah Nordhaus, Savanna Herzs, Braden Johnson, and Addison Johnson; three great-grandchildren, Carolyn, Jackson, and Evelyn; and a brother, Robert Emo, Erie, IL.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Chris and LaVera, a daughter, Tammy Lynette Willman Hawkins, and two sisters.
